September 2009

Dear Member of the SIGMM Community,

Welcome to the third issue of the ACM SIG Multimedia Records!

This issue is full of good news from the SIGMM and its members. First, we can announce that Professor Lawrence A. Rowe has been awarded the SIGMM Award for Outstanding Technical Contributions to Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications. He will be presented with the reward at ACM Multimedia in Beijing, where it is held from October 19-24, 2009. We want to congratulate Professor Rowe already now!

We have very good news from SIGMM's own journal, TOMCCAP. Our young journal has already in its very first ISI journal ranking taken top spot ahead of other multimedia journals. Together with this announcement, SIGMM is also looking for someone who can assume the responsibilities of Editor-in-Chief after this successful start.

This issue contains also SIGMM's report to the ACM for your information. It will tell you about the most important activities of SIGMM in a very brief format. We present the background for a featured paper, the second most downloaded multimedia paper in autumn 2008. We present more awards that have been granted to our members, and tell you about the upcoming opportunity to nominate candidates for the SIGMM Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis in Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications. The issue includes summaries for successfully finished PhD theses, and we are of course also informing you of current opportunities for submitting your papers.

We wish you good reading with this latest issue of the SIGMM Records!
